This series is episodic, though a few thin threads do link some episodes. Contrary to the first season, Kino's presence is prominent in roughly half of the episodes. The quality of the story is very irregular in this season. Another difference is the presence of ugly CGI, which fortunately isn't widespread enough to spoil the fun.
Despite those minor defects, I really enjoyed this. The strong points of the first season are all there: psychology, meeting strange traditions, cruel fables. I thought 5 episodes out of 12 were superb. Two of these were new takes of the first season, but enough time had passed so I just remembered the story, I wasn't comparing every scene. Other episodes sprung various levels of interest, and I thought 2 of them were failures, but that didn't stain the whole. I long for a third season with 12 original episodes.

I approached this anime completely clueless about it, as I didn't watch the OG version, which as I have read and heard is way superior. Still, this was a special anthology-like watch, with cool and collected protagonists. One of its notable features are its tone shifts on an episode-to-episode basis. Normally, I would complain about tone shifts, because they can be extremely frustrating at times, but this time I felt it gave the series a huge variety. Some episodes were fun, even hillarious. Others were much, much darker in tone, dealing with crude themes such as madness, slavery, even potential infanticide by murderous psycho parents. Because of this unique factor, it represents a novel approach to the genre, and I feel it helps to refreshen it as a whole.
Unfortunately, I can't compare it to the original series, because as I have mentioned, I have not watched it. Nevertheless, this was a great series from 2017's portfolio. Highly recommended for everyone.

I had no idea what this anime was about, thought it was about some traveling and meet with some new friends etc. Turned out that every episode has something unique, something unexpected and sometime twisted character. Really enjoy watching every episode because they are all very different.

This adaptation is similar to the 2003 version although the adventures and characters are better in the predecessor. This anime follows Kino who explores different towns and their philosophies. For the most part, this is a calm and relaxing series so give this slice of life anime a try.

While this one is not as good as the original series, it still has some great moments and some interesting countries to show.

If you liked previous titles - you will like this too... If you didn't watch them: a journey with elements of violence and psychology. Interesting idea of "each place - new feature and rules".

This new series of Kino is not as beautiful as the old one of 2003. I recommend to see first that, and the next two animated films.
In this new series, the mystery about Kino's character is missing, and certain details about his life are missing as well. It is also more superficial, a bit too "moe". The old episodes that are re-proposed are mediocre, but there are some very interesting new ones.
However, I liked it enough to recommend it, and I hope that they will continue to develop the adventures of Kino, possibly in the old style.

This series itself is a good watch. If you have seen the old series though (like me) you might find it lacking in comparison.
I liked the charme of the old series which is missing here a bit. Instead we get a moe-and-3D-kind of version which isn't too bad though. Essentially the feeling of Kino's stories is still there so all is good.
The music is still great - and so are most of the stories. Some of the best stories have received an remake with this version such as: "Colosseum" (ep. 2), "Kind Country" (ep. 10), "Country of Adults" (ep. 11). I still like the story "Country of Adults" and "Kind Country" best followed by the new story "A Country Where People Can Kill Others".
What I liked about the mix of stories in this series is that we get to see the side characters of Shishou and Shizu more often. And I hope there will be some more stories following someday.
A really enjoyable, relaxing and also thought-provoking series!

Aimless fun.
*I did not watch the originals*
It's an episodic adventure, where each weeks plot explores different themes along the aimless journey of Kino and some other characters too. Some weeks plots are pretty interesting, but some week's had me questioning with slight disagreement. Nonetheless, its pretty straight forward, sometimes predictable but is still good for an easy sit back and watch.
The rest of the aspects were pretty average to me, nothing too bad nothing to shout about too.
So recommended as an easy watch at 6/10
