My Hero Academia’s Societal Dynamic Needs Superheroes
These Characters from Other Anime Would Be Useful As MHA Heroes
My Hero Academia is a charming anime and manga that narrates the classic tale of heroes vs villains. It takes place in a superhuman society where 80% of the world’s population has developed a superpower, or quirk, which drastically altered the way societies function. Kōhei Horikoshi is MHA’s creator and it was first serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on July 7th, 2017. It is still ongoing, and occupying a spot as one of the leading shōnen series of the 2020s. This series is so popular because its universe has innovative superpowers, fascinating characters and enthralling plots that keep fans hooked.

My Hero Academia’s vast universe ushers the possibility for almost any type of ability to be showcased. Some characters sport practical abilities, such as Hanta Sero’s quirk “Tape” that enables him to produce a powerful adhesive tape from his arms which can be used to bind his target, while other characters possess alarming abilities such as Hitoshi Shinso’s quirk “Brainwash” that allows him to control the actions of anyone who engages in a conversation with him, if he chooses to. The diversity of My Hero Academia’s universe leaves room for a theoretical discussion about which characters from other anime would thrive in it.

My Hero Academia takes place in a superhuman society that still functions as a normal society would, since not everyone possesses a quirk. Concepts like jail exist in MHA's universe, but they are not as effective as jails are in real life. A direct example of this is the Assault on Tartarus when the dangerous prisoners being held there escaped maximum security. The prison break was orchestrated by one of MHA’s main antagonists, All For One, who instructed a group of bioengineered creatures called “Nomu” to forge a path of escape for him. Not all villains are capable of escaping from a maximum security prison like All For One is, but there are people with abilities powerful enough to smash the buildings that make up regular prisons and jails.

There are also police in this superhuman society, but they are only capable of capturing petty criminals who don’t have powerful abilities and those who are quirkless, since jobs in the police force are delegated to those without quirks. That is why heroes exist, to defeat and detain the villains the police cannot. It could even be argued that heroes are essentially police with superpowers, because their job is to save other people and arrest villains without killing them, without regard to how formidable they are. This method has not always been the most effective, but the characters introduced in this article have abilities that could hypothetically negate MHA’s issue of jail security, defeat tough villains and adhere to the heroes’ anti-killing policy.

A concise recap of what’s happened in My Hero Academia up until season 7 is that All Might, the world’s strongest hero and symbol of peace, was losing his powerful quirk called One For All and he needed a successor. He saw potential in a quirkless kid named Izuku Midoriya, and he passed One For All onto him. Midoriya enrolled in U.A. to hone his ability and was soon attacked by All For One’s prodigy, Tomura Shigaraki, and other criminals who are known as the League of Villains. Eventually, All Might lost his power in a climactic battle with All For One and was forced to retire.

The League of Villains started off as a small organization, but they grew into a major threat when they joined forces with the Meta Liberation Army and rebranded themselves as the Paranormal Liberation Front. All Might’s retirement evened the battlefield between heroes and villains, which was evident in the Paranormal Liberation War Arc. My Hero Academia’s anime is still airing its Final War Arc: Midorya has powerful allies, including a refurbished All Might, but the following characters would be invaluable warriors to aid him in battle.

Elletear from KimiSen Would Strengthen The Heroes in Battle
KimiSen, or Our Last Crusade or The Rise of a New World, is a Japanese light novel series that was written by Kei Sazane and illustrated by Ao Nekonabe. It was adapted into a manga by Okama a year after its release and serialized in Hakusensha’s Young Animal Magazine from May 2018 to March 2021. KimiSen premiered as an anime adaptation in October 2020 with one season and its second season was released in July 2024. This series follows a raging war that is ongoing between two sectors, a machine-based empire and a magic-based empire. Fans of the “star-crossed lovers” trope may find a sense of fulfillment with KimiSen because, amidst the chaos, a witch and a soldier meet and fall in love with each other through an unforeseen twist of fate.

The abilities in KimiSen are astral-based. In accordance with this, individuals can gain astral power derived from astral energy which is buried deep inside their planet. Astral Mages are humanoid beings who have the ability to wield the power of astral energy, allowing them to control one of earth’s elements such as fire or ice. Alternatively, they can possess a completely different form of power that allows them to teleport or use voice impressions. Elletear Lou Nebulis IX, or Subject E, was formerly an Astral Mage with the ability to mimic any voice she'd heard, which played into her deceptive manipulation tactics. On top of that, she was intelligent.
Elletear became one of KimiSen’s main antagonists and gained the name “Subject E” after she was experimented on and became a mutant witch with the abilities to regenerate, place anyone in her vicinity in a coma and incapacitate other Astral Mages. Despite her villainous past, Elletear would make an exceptional hero in My Hero Academia. Her requiem of the stars ability that gives her the power to incapacitate Astral Mages would have no use, but her coma inducement and regeneration would greatly assist her and MHA's heroes against the mighty foes they'd face, including the League of Villains.

Yuto Shirasagi From Battle Game in 5 Seconds Could Facilitate Peace Between Heroes and Villains
Battle Game in 5 Seconds, or Battle in 5 Seconds After Meeting, is a Japanese manga series that was written by Saizō Harawa and illustrated by Kashiwa Miyako as a remake of Harawata’s webcomic. It was serialized in Shogakukan’s MangaONE app and Ura Sunday Website in August 2015, and is still ongoing. However, the Battle Game in 5 Seconds anime was only released from July 2021 to September 2021, producing a single season. The series follows the story of the protagonist Akira Shiroyanagi, a lover of games and sweets, who meets a mysterious girl named Minion and accompanies her into an unusual video game that grants players special abilities. Akira has the ambition to triumph in the game using his wit and newfound abilities.

Battle Game in 5 Seconds’ late Yuto Shirasagi is a former attorney who joined the game after the tragic loss of his daughter while he was on the brink of convicting her killer, Iizuka Reiji, for a different crime. Yuto’s abilities allow him to handcuff his opponents, which temporarily strips them of their powers. He also has the ability to conduct peaceful negotiations with the opposing party. Yuto’s negotiation allows him to designate a target to negotiate with. Additionally, any damage inflicted on Yuto during the negotiation gets nullified once the negotiation is over. Yuto’s negotiation ability would be effective against villains in My Hero Academia because it would ensure peace between all parties. The ability to achieve a peaceful resolution with villains would benefit the hero's agenda.
These Characters From Medaka Box Could Nullify or Enhance Character Abilities

Medaka Box is a shōnen manga series that was written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Akira Akatsuki and it was serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from May 2009 to May 2013. Medaka Box was adapted into a 12-episode anime with one season from April 2012 to June 2012, and it produced a second 12-episode season from October 2012 to December 2012 before concluding. Medaka Box is Nisio Isin’s best known work outside of Japan and it is an obvious deconstruction of typical shōnen manga. In Medaka Box, Isin consistently introduced common manga tropes and terms, or storytelling rules, and offered an alternative that forced fans to question how things are normally portrayed. The reality-altering abilities of Youka Naze and Misogi Kumagawa add a little deconstruction in their own way.

Isin's Medaka Box may not have gotten the same critical acclaim as his Monogatari series, but that doesn't mean that its anime isn't without merit.

Medaka Box’s Naze has the ability to “remodel” which allows her to change aspects of living or inanimate things in order to increase efficiency, while Kumagawa has an ability called “all fiction” which allows him to erase aspects of reality, meaning he can turn something into nothing. There are various ways these abilities could be used. Naze’s ability could reinforce prisons or it could be used in a manner that is similar to a quirk enhancement, or support item, since she could alter a character’s body to maximize the effectiveness of their quirk, and Kumagawa’s ability could take away character quirks or erase characters in general. Naze and Kumagawa were antagonists in Medaka Box, but they would be unparalleled additions to My Hero Academia’s fierce roster of heroes.

Sakura From Naruto Would Provide Unprecedented Support to Heroes in Battle
Naruto is a lucrative shōnen manga series that was created by Masashi Kishimoto and serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from September 1999 to November 2014. Naruto’s manga was converted into an anime with two parts: Naruto (2002-2007) and Naruto Shippuden (2007-2017). Though its anime concluded in 2017, Naruto still remains one of the most beloved anime around the world. This series invites fans into the fantasy world of ninja, or shinobi, where characters rely on their own chakra to perform the ninja arts known as genjutsu, taijutsu and some facets of ninjutsu. There are even unique abilities that only individuals within a particular clan can obtain, such as a kekkei genkai, or bloodline trait.

Sakura Haruno doesn’t have a kekkei genkai but she is proficient at chakra control. Her talent led her to become an outstanding medical ninja who also possesses overwhelming physical strength. My Hero Academia already has Chiyo Shuzenji, or Recovery Girl, who can significantly reduce the amount of time characters require to heal after sustaining an injury. However, Chiyo is not available during battle due to the nature of her ability, which is suitable for healing but not fighting. Sakura would be an invaluable asset in battle because she could defend using her physical strength, and aid the heroes who sustain injuries during battle while it is ongoing, allowing them to perform their job more efficiently. Characters like Midoriya would greatly benefit from Sakura’s medical ninjutsu in the instance that he broke a bone during battle, which he was prone to doing early in MHA because his body couldn’t handle his quirk.

Kagura From Gintama Would be a Fierce Opponent Against MHA's Villains
Gintama is a shōnen comedy manga that was created by Hideaki Sorachi and began serializing in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine in December 2003. Gintama’s manga concluded in June 2019, while its anime ran from April 2006 to October 2018. It is set to return in 2025 with a new anime series. Gintama takes place during Japan’s Edo period in the “land of samurai”, which was overtaken by aliens called the Amanto who are among the series’ biggest antagonists. Some of the Amanto possess overwhelming strength such as the Yato clan who are the strongest race in the universe. The samurai are humans who don’t possess any supernatural ability, but their swordsmanship is impressive enough to make viewers believe they do. Exceptional swordsmen such as Sakata Gintoki and Sougo Okita have even gone toe-to-toe with Yato members.

The Yato are renowned for their physical prowess, but they have also destroyed countless planets due to it. By nature, the Yato have an intense desire to create chaos and engage in battles. Claiming the life of their opponent is instinctual. Kagura is a part of the Yato clan, but she has no desire to harm others. She yearns for a sense of belonging and camaraderie which she found in Yorozuya with Gintoki and Shinpachi Shimura. There aren’t any characters in My Hero Academia who possess super strength on the scale of Izuku and All Might -before he lost his power- which would make Kagura a force to be reckoned with. Not only is she strong enough to knock cars around using the air generated from her swings, she possesses hypersonic speed and regenerative abilities. Further, the umbrella Kagura carries to protect herself from the sun is bulletproof, and it can also shoot bullets out of the tip. Another reason Kagura fits the criteria of My Hero Academia's heroes is because she subconsciously holds back when fighting to avoid killing her opponent, which is something heroes deliberately do for the same reason.
